Yarrow expands into Islington

Yarrow has recently expanded into North London, taking on the management of two supported living services in Islington. We feel very privileged to have been given this opportunity. Happily, many of the existing staff have chosen to work with us, and we’re excited about bringing Yarrow’s values and principles to Islington.

Minerva Lodge is a supported living service for nine people with learning disabilities and autism, aged from their 30s to their 70s, each of whom live in their own flat. The centre has great communal areas, and everyone meets regularly to socialise – including a roast dinner on Sundays and a coffee morning on Fridays. They also have a beautiful communal garden tended by the residents.

Camden Road is a supported living service for 14 people with learning disabilities and autism, with each person living in their own flat. Aged from 19 through to their 70s, they have a broad range of needs.

We have already begun a full induction programme with the members of staff at Minerva Lodge. We also have a mentoring programme where each new member of staff in this service has been paired with an existing Yarrow manager to support them through the transition. We’re really enjoying working together to ensure the people we support receive high quality person-centred support. We will be implementing active support and positive behaviour support approaches at both services – find out more about what this means by following the links.

We are very excited to be bringing our ethos to Islington, enabling people to maximise their independence, exercise real choice and control in their lives and take their rightful place within their community.
