Run, Prod, Run!

We have a lot of things to look forward to in 2019, not least of which will be cheering on our board member, Prod Sarigianis, when he runs the Edinburgh Marathon in May!

A painted colourful poster saying The Gate Arts CentreProd is running to raise money for The Gate, our community arts centre. We’re enormously grateful to Prod for deciding to support The Gate in this way. The Gate welcomes all adults with learning disabilities, whatever their individual needs, and supports them to try something new, giving them the opportunity to express themselves in music, drama and art. There is something for everyone – they even produce their own weekly radio show, Gate Kicks on Resonance FM.

Prod tells us that his training is going well, despite the winter weather. Luckily, he is no stranger to marathons, having run four already since he joined Yarrow’s Board only two years ago. This will be the first time he has run the Edinburgh Marathon but, as he was a student in Edinburgh, he is looking forward to revisiting the city. The good news is that the course starts at its highest point and is mainly downhill from there, so Prod is hoping to achieve a similar time to previous marathons at just under four hours. Impressive stuff! Although he does admit that he usually begins to wonder why he is doing this at around the 20-mile mark…

Prod has set himself an ambitious fundraising target of £5,000, which he is already more than half way to achieving, and we’re going to do everything we can to make sure he smashes through it!
The money Prod raises will go directly towards replacing and improving our equipment at The Gate. The team would particularly love to be able to replace their PA system and the amps and drumkits used by their band, so they can bring their music to even more people in 2019.

Thanks in advance for your support, your donation really will make a big difference to a person with learning disabilities.

The biggest thanks of course go to Prod, for making such a wonderful commitment. Good luck, Prod, we’ll be cheering you on every step of the way!
